Elementary Programs

Elementary students in Primary (Gr. 1-3) and Intermediate (Gr. 4-6) classes learn age-appropriate academic concepts via hands-on, cooperative learning activities and unit studies.

  • Science

Description: Students participate in various science experiments and are encouraged to interact with the world around them using a scientific eye via themes studies based on the Magic School Bus series.

  • Social Studies

Description: Students develop an age appropriate understanding of Social Studies and History using selected books from the Magic Tree House series.

  • Extension: Science, Social Studies

Description: Extension classes take students to the next level with additional labs and projects correlating with their Science and Social Studies courses. This is a great opportunity for teachers to use hands-on projects they could not fit into regular class time.

 

  • Physical Education

Description: The year begins with an introduction into team sports, then expands upon students' knowledge as the year progresses. This class is for those not afraid to sweat and have a great time doing it!

  • Enrichment I: American Sign Language/Art

Description: During the first semester, Primary students students study American Sign Language. In addition to learning basic signs, students learn how to apply sign language to music. For the second semester, students create their own masterpieces using A Study of the Masters curriculum.

  • Enrichment II: Drama/Math

Description: For the first semester, students play roles of cast and crew in the mini-musical The Three Billy Goats Gruff — Go Calypso! During the second semester, students solve conversion problems involving cups, pints, quarts and gallons with the math study Capacity Converter.

  • Social Studies

Description: Who was the Sun King? What was the black hole of Calcutta? Where was the Crystal Palace? How did cow fat start a revolution? With The Story of the World curriculum, students find out the answers to these questions and more!

Description: Students investigate Astronomy, Botany and Zoology using the Classical and Charlotte Mason methodology based Exploring Creation series.

  • Extension: Social Studies, Science

Description: Extension classes take students to the next level with additional labs and projects that correlate with their Social Studies and Science courses. This is a great opportunity for teachers to use those fabulous hands-on projects they could not fit into regular class time.

 

  • Physical Education

Description: Students can expect to learn about and participate in a wide variety of physical activities. These will range from the very familiar – football, basketball, soccer – to the (for most kids) unusual – rock climbing, croquet, lacrosse.

Description: Students study simplified versions of the scenes from Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night's Dream and learn how to put on an Elizabethan Festival during the first half of the year. For the second half, students compete in teams to solve algebraic problems quickly and design challenging mazes with Algebra Mystery Maze.

  • Enrichment II: American Sign Language/Art

Description: Students study American Sign Language (ASL) for the first semester and Art for the second. Sign class is for those serious about learning to sign as a second language. Students in Art class create their own masterpieces using A Study of the Masters art curriculum.
